My name is Stephanie Johnson, a student from the Hair Expressions Academy, Paul Mitchell, Jessup, Maryland.
I am a female veteran retired from the U.S. Army and will use my cosmetologist talents and gifts under the 501c3 non-profit program by giving back to the community.
Benevolent Coiffure Services will be a new non-profit organization aimed at serving the needs of Baltimore’s homeless and low-income population, especially service-disabled veterans and homeless seniors. Founded by a service-disabled veteran, the Organization will offer free cosmetology services to the homeless population, helping them to re-enter the working world and get back on their feet. Benevolent Coiffure Services will operate a mobile van, touring areas of Baltimore in search of homeless residents who need haircuts and hairstyling services to get them back to looking their best. Though Maryland regulations prohibit performing chemical hair care services from a mobile unit, Benevolent Coiffure Services plans to lobby the state to receive an exception due to the philanthropic nature of its activities. The Organization will perform the following services for men and women:
• Shampooing
• Hair cuts
• Face shaves
• Hair styling
The Organization has identified the following objectives and benchmarks as it begins operations:
Short-term
- Establish itself as a trusted mobile hair salon
- Build a base of customers that is large enough to sustain business
Long-term
- Enhance its client base to sustain the business and support its growth objectives
- Generate enough revenue to expand operations
creation of a logo, website, and branding materials by a professional graphic designer. The Organization’s campaign will incorporate a variety of advertising channels to increase its exposure among prospective customers. Benevolent Coiffure Services is acutely aware of the growing importance of non-traditional channels when it comes to reaching out to customers and donors, including content marketing and cutting-edge digital tools. Specific channels Benevolent Coiffure Services will use to reach out to customers include the following:
Website: The Organization will create a search engine optimized and mobile compatible website to generate. The website will use cookies to track customers who have visited the website in order to feed them re-targeted ads across their internet travels, keeping Benevolent Coiffure Services at the top of their mind. This website will include an About Us page, social media links and integration, service information, call-to-action, visuals, regularly updated blog, customer testimony, and an email opt-in form for customers who want to be included on the Organization’s email list.
Vehicular advertising: Benevolent Coiffure Services will have its van wrapped in a large and colorful logo that clearly explains its mission, so that prospective customers can easily find it. This will also build awareness of the service within the metro area and help attract new donors.
Email marketing: Current and prospective clients will benefit from receiving strategic email updates and newsletters on a regular basis. This will provide the Organization’s database of past donors and opt-in members with information regarding the positive impact Benevolent Coiffure Services is having on Baltimore’s homeless population. All emails will be optimized for desktop and mobile viewing. Email marketing delivers the highest ROI of any digital marketing tactic: an average of $42 per dollar spent and the average email open rate is 19.8%.
Partnerships: The Organization will establish partnerships with organizations such as the Maryland Food Bank, shelters for battered women and children, AmeriCorps, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Maryland Veterans Homeless Center. Benevolent Coiffure Services’ founder already volunteers at these organizations and has relationships with the decisionmakers there.
