Both on-line and in-class students will create a presentation of their paper.
In-class: In-class students will present their paper to the rest of the class. Students who have similar paper topics can present as a group. (For instance, one quarter two students presented together with one focusing on MacOS security and the other focusing on Win7 security.)
Students must create either a slide show or a web site; I have seen both used very effectively in the past.
For your presentation, keep the following points in mind, as I will use these to evaluate the effectiveness of your presentation. For the presentation, content is less important than process and form; I will already have evaluated your content in the paper. The presentation is an opportunity to pass your knowledge on to your peers and that is what I will focus my evaluation on.
Process (in-class only):
1) Introduce yourself
2) Introduce your topic
3) Proceed in a logical order through your presentation
a. Speak – don’t read notes or slides
b. Get away from the terminal
c. Point at the projection/screen, not at the monitor
d. Show good knowledge of material
e. Stay on topic, at least most of the time
f. If in a group, is everyone participating?
4) Ask for questions
5) End definitively
Form (both in-class and on-line):
1) Have an appropriate level of detail on each slide / web page
2) Make it visually appealing, or at least not ugly
3) Coherent and well-organized
Other details (in-class only):
1) Start time (do watch the clock)
2) Stop time (5-10 minutes for each presenter)
3) Attendance at others’ presentations
