Proposal for Massively Resetting Friendly URLs On PrestaShop
Introduction
This proposal outlines the process and steps necessary to perform a mass reset of the URLs of products stored on the PrestaShop shopping platform. The goal is to reset and update all existing URLs on the store, creating new, friendly and easily identifiable URLs.
Background
As part of PrestaShop’s SEO optimization, creating friendly URLs is essential. Over time, product URLs can become cluttered or outdated, negatively impacting a store’s ability to appear in web searches and face competition with other stores. Resetting a store's product URLs allows shop owners to create new, updated URLs that are more friendly and searchable, improving the overall search engine optimization of the store.
Objective
The primary objective of this project is to develop a method for resetting the URLs of all products stored in the store in a single pass. The new URLs created should also be easy to read and identify, so as to not confuse customers and enable better SEO optimization.
Methodology
The methodology used in this project is flexible, with the ultimate goal to complete the entire URL reset of all store products in as short of a timeframe as possible:
1. Analyze the existing URLs and create a database to store information, such as the product name and current URL.
2. Develop a universal search string builder to create updated URLs from the existing URLs.
3. Create a script that scans the store database and generates the new URLs.
4. Test the new URLs to ensure they are functioning correctly.
5. Deploy the new URLs on the store.
6. Monitor the new URLs and track performance, if necessary.
Conclusion
This proposal has outlined a methodology suitable for performing a mass reset of product URLs on the PrestaShop platform. Adhering to this methodology should create new, friendly URLs and improve the store’s overall search engine optimization. With the correct implementation, store owners should see an increase in traffic and web search visibility.
