This should be an easy to do project. You are required to write a computer program which will work out an optimal prefix code for any given discrete information source and will calculate its efficiency. The assumption that the sources under consideration are simple and have known symbol probabilities should be made. The program should be capable of coding into both binary and alphabets of more than two symbols. You may use any of the following two programming language prefferably with the given order. 1)Matlab 2)C The program should have descriptions throughout the main body and also a detailed description of operation and development should be provided in the form of text. Because of the nature of the project, if required further assistance in terms of equations for prefix codes will be provided but not a lot more. In the accompanying documentation mentioned above the following must be included: 1)A statement whether it is more efficient to code into binary rather than any other channel alphabet. 2)what improvements, if any, in average word lengths can be made by grouping two or more input symbols together into blocks and then encoding the blocks. Instead of coding the symbols A, B separately group them into input words AB, ..., BA and then code these words as if they were source symbols.(if changes to the code are required please include a different code version). 3)What happens to average word length and efficiency when the actual source distribution does not match the symbol probabilities used to generate the code. Hope the description is more than enough. Please contact me for further info. ## Deliverables 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. 2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables): a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment. b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request. 3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement). 4)If matlab programming enviroment is used all required .mat, .m files sould be provided. 5)All required documentation described must be provided. ## Platform Prefferably Windows XP, and second choise Linux as these two are available to me at the moment.
