Hello,
I'm a freelance writer and an artist. To resume what a visual novel is, it's exactly what it sounds like, it's a story/novel integrated in a game interface (There's always a play button/save/quit/etc...)
Unlike a classic animated novel, we have sounds, graphics, and we only have first person view. And most of the times, the game allows the player to choose their own endings based on their choice.
I insist that the ones that are interested in the job, should try and at least a couple of visual novel games to know how it works. They should try look the interface of a visual game engine before making their own.
Moving on.
The basics for the engine must have:
- IT SHOULD ONLY HAVE A WYSIWYG INTERFACE. (I never liked coding and programming. If you looked up on Ren'Py, the popular visual novel engine in the west, there's python coding in it. But, I want it Novelty or Belle, as I said earlier, I despise writing codes.)
- Music/Voices (Of course)
- Image transitions; (Like a scene to another, how the background/characters appearing/disappearing)
- Can add animated Gifs/Images (images mainly Jpeg, Png and photoshop files, I only use the three of them)
- Can add videos
- When you export the game, it should be in an HTML5 coding. Html5 is like cross platforming. You can convert it to many extensions such as exe, apk, etc...
- Can change the mouse pointer, the buttons etc...
Those are the basics. I want to work on a software who runs both on mac and windows.
I'm on a very tight budget. I can finance project for 50 euros.
It's for personal use. The games created with it may be distributed but the engine won't be.
I'm paying only for those who are really motivated to this job (since, the budget and all)
I'm very patient, the developer can take time to develop the engine, they just have to finish before April.
