Wordpress plugin update issue fix

I have a website created recently using a Wordpress Theme and Woo Commerce. Since the latest Wordpress update, none of my dozen or so plugins will update. I get the message "Could not remove old plugin. Update failed.' I think this issue is also causing Woo Commerce to un-activate itself sporadically. Probably a very simple fix but I lack the html knowledge to investigate.
