I have done this kind of the project in the past. I was monitoring temperatures and then transmitting that data to the smart phone via bluetooth. The data was also stored locally on the SD Card when the phone was not available nearby and once the phone was nearby, the data from the SD Card was also transferred to the smartphone and the data base. let me know if you are interested.
