Contest Brief

Deliverables:
1. Provide at least 2 high-quality renders (one with streetscape background and beach setting)
2. Provide STP (step) assembly file
3. Provided dimensioned 2D drawing file of major parts

The goal is to create a rack/dock system that can store 10-20 surfboards vertically with the ability to add additional units modularly. Please include attached Plank.jpg or similar soft-board in renderings. The unit could be installed as a standalone structure or affixed to a wall, your creativity is encouraged. Locking mechanism to be incorporated into surfboard design at the point of manufacturing. Simplicity is key, surfboards are to be exposed to the elements requiring no enclosure. Ease of access and space constraints to be considered.

Components:
1. Surfboards and Dock
2. Lock design (male/female components)
3. Solar/control box

Please see ZIP files for inspiration pictures attached.

Hi! we are working on your project, but have a question, when you say: "Locking mechanism to be incorporated into surfboard design at the point of manufacturing", you mean that the actual surf board will have a sort of device, or will be somehow adapted to fit the locker dock? or do you want the dock to fit any regular soft board?

Hi Carla, good question! "Locking mechanism to be incorporated into surfboard design at the point of manufacturing" yes this would be built into the surfboard itself making it unique to the dock. This should not affect the surfboards performance, and would ideally use readily available technology much like the lock in the attached zip file.

will start working on it, I have some questions, this project will be on the outdoors right? next to a beach I suppose, so, the material you require is something durable right? maybe some galvanized steel perhaps.

even though salty environments lower the lifetime of galvanized iron and will eventually rust on many years.

Hi Sandra, yes! would definitely be placed near the beach and salt/water/sand will affect the longevity of the components. I'd imagine surfboards will be returned salty, wet and sandy quite often so ideally they won't land in places that would accumulate or hinder the locking components. I haven't put too much thought into the material but your spot on considering the elements. On that note, the surfboards themselves are not particularly valuable or fragile, so it is not essential they lock/store super snuggly. They will likely contain an RFID/NFC or inventory management.
