It might be a not so simple task as you seem to suppose. Is mod_perl installed on the server? if you'd have some examples for when your existing script fails, that might help as well. If the underlying server is Linux based, I'm ready to help and would be glad to do it. Thank you.

All websites I made in the last 15+ years are are in Perl and all use cookies. It can be manually coded or a bit easier to use a Perl module. I use CGI::Session as the user is passed only one cookie and the rest is saved on the server. If the session cookie is set to last for a year or whatever all the data from the user is saved and if he returns you can reuse it for whatever you want. Also it might be possible for current code to be fixedif there it's really a problem in the code and not a client issue (users disabling cookies, browsing anonymously, etc.).
