Hi, I have extensive knowledge and experience with the Perl Scripting Language, and if you check my profile, you will see that I have done at least 4-5 major Perl scripts since January of this year. This includes scripts that interface with Active Directory to retrieve users or groups, and add users or remove users to and from groups, as well as connect to IMAP servers to check for new email messages, and query SQL Databases to select or update tables. I have also done GUI applications in Perl that will log off Citrix sessions and the current session when you click a button or run the script. I have more than 15 years experience working with Linux, and Unix-like Operating Systems and Distributions, such as Slackware, Redhat/Fedora, CentOS, Debian, and Ubuntu. I know the command line like the back of my own hand & have server admin exp. I have an Associate Degree in Computer Science and I am close to getting my Bachelor's in CS with a possible minor in Mathematics. I've been working at least 6 years as an Independent Contractor for a company called Boomdizzle (a social music hip hop website). I can provide the script in perl that will run as a service. It will: - decide what to do with every single line of log. possible option (send a mail, store the log info into a mysql table, just print stdout).

Depending on Linux distro and used syslog (rsyslog, ng-syslog, systemd-journald) it will be realized as combination of syslog filter, syslog plugin and perl postprocessor. In this case, throughput will be limited by MySQL and Disk I/O. Parallel processing of the loglines will be necessary for the requested throughput. Emails will be sent by a separate process through local MTA. The implementation is very much dependent on nature of the rules. This is not only just log parsing but system log changing continuously so remembering what changed. Performance and loading log again and again is going to be a challenge. I can do it nicely in some other way. Thanks Vineet
