To Whom it May Concern,
I, Eden Townend, would like to be considered for the advertised translation role as advertised on Freelancer. My experience of living and studying in China Both my language course at Beijing Language and Culture University and my degree in Contemporary Chinese studies at both the UK and China campuses of The University of Nottingham have provided me with strong spoken and written Mandarin.
My studies in China have largely been conducted in Mandarin, including spending a year conducting research on Chinese social media and analysing Chinese rap lyrics. This required me to translate a variety of idiomatic rap lyrics from Chinese into English. I also translated posts by users on social media, as well as both scholarly and journalistic Chinese articles. This proves that I have a sophisticated vocabulary in both languages, as well as experience in translating across multiple registers, from slang to formal.
In my previous role as a music production and social media assistant, I was required to work to strict deadlines and manage time effectively, working and liaising with musicians, co-producers and music venues to organise both concerts and tours. This means I am very used to working to strict deadlines both with coworkers and on my own.
Thank you for considering me for this project,
Eden Townend
