Change password storing mechanism (from md5 to bcrypt) in an open source social network

I can change from md5 to bcrypt. But what about the existing passwords stored in the database. If we convert from md5 to bcrypt, existing users will not be able to login.

Bcrypt can be a drop-in replacement for md5-- If you give me 3 days, I can make your site secure again.
