Our local Charity Organisation - The salvation army has asked for help..
Our small regional community is home to many migrants and refuges (which we are proud of)
A large group of these are Punjabi speaking men and woman from India/Pakistan.
Unfortunately our government does not provide services to assist these people in gaining an understanding of our rather unique language
The ability to communicate is crucial to these people who have chosen to become members of our community. With the men going to work (often 2 jobs) , the wives are left at home and struggle meet new people due to the language barrier. We want them to feel more welcome to our community , without the need to feel ashamed or embarrassed.
This is where we want your help.
A phonic based application ( both accessible from a website, iOs app and Google Play App)
That offers accurate translation from English to Punjabi and Punjabi to English.
The learner can hear the word in Punjabi and then hear it in its English translation and vice versa. They can also see the work in Punjabi and then in English.
The critical element to this is accuracy - the charity has tried to use services such as google translate but has found it struggles to translate English into the correct Punjabi and the poor person ends up even more confused
Too make it fun perhaps a badge based system could be implemented they can post to fbook etc.
My Private company will be absorbing the costs of developing this application ( as a donation to the Salvation Army) It will need to be simple yet elegantly functional in its design.
