Custom Joomla! Module/Component

Need a custom image gallery developed that will feature multiple works by multiple artists. Each artist will have their own page. On the right will be thumbnails of their entire library of work. Some of those pieces are part of a portfolio of work. The thumbnails on the right should link to a page featuring that piece (not a colorbox-style window), all of the info for that piece and any any thumbnails of other pieces in that portfolio). In a case where there is a portfolio of work (some pieces are just single artworks with no other pieces associated), there should be a link on the featured art page to a page with the information for the entire portfolio. There should also be an easy, user-friendly way for user to add works/portfolios to an artists' library. I am open to suggestions on how to achieve these requests. I know there's got to be an easier way than making a separate page in joomla for each piece of art.
