I have a 2 layers MultiChip Module board with very small size and very restrictive design rules. I need to place and route the components with Altium Designer.
General clearance is too high compared with the paths and with the components size, so all them have to be really separated. PCB dimensions and shape do not allow to optimize free-space, although using both layers (Top and bottom) of the PCB. The only restriccion is that biggest components (transceiver, xtal and 0805 dimensions) have to be placed at the top layer, and this involves several crossings among paths that are difficult to solve.

and the MCM design rules:
o Track Width: 150um, you should use a larger width for power tracks (300um for example)
o Clearance: 150um.
o Solder stop: every pad should be surrounded by solder stop, separating all pads from each other (and VIAs). The openings must be at least 50µm away from the pad (e.g. if you have a 500 x 500µm pad, the opening should be 600 x 600 µm)
o Component clearance: 150um.
The connexions are explained below.
o The PCB will be a 6 layers with components on both sides. You can find the PCB stackup in attached.
o The dimensions reserved for the RF part is presented in the “Layout Mechanical Spec” file.
o The transceiver must be on the top layer because the entire thick components will be put on the same layer. The other components could be placed as you want.
o The connections between the two parts will be made after generating the gerbers. So the connexions specification presented in “2 PCB connexions” file needs to be respected
