(Maybe it can done with AJAX or some changes with AngularJS / Java code.)

I have a lot of experience with WebSocket and/or long-poll technology - server side notifications I think we can finish it fast and elegant way.
I think the ajax is not a good idea for real time updates, instead here we can make use of stream channels.
