Project - Stand Alone Data Logger Background Grey Space Ltd is a small UK based consultancy working primarily in the Automotive industry. We work with some major OEM brands and design and manufacture test equipment. We have a need to develop a second generation data logging product that will also calculate some data in real time. The logger and computer will travel with the vehicle recording data from some sensors for investigation at a later date. Application Automotive Motorsport, logging 32 analogue voltage channels, 1 x time, 8 digital + 6 calculated channels Preferred Hardware Any single board computer - preferably based around Raspberry Pi style hardware Specification 32 ADC analogue channels (single ended) 8 digital channels (simple 0/1 trigger) >100Hz per channel sample rate the time channel will be created from the on board real time clock The total channels to be stored = 47 (32 x analogue, 1 x time, 8 digital, 6 calculated) +/- 10v range per channel >14 bit minimum resolution (16 bit preferred) will use 5v or 12v DC power supply will use 4 Gb SD / TF card for storage (needs to be removable) USB2 or USB3 connectivity to download data to a laptop Mechanical Interface Screwed terminal blocks shall be used to connect the sensors Start button - Logging will start when this button is pressed, a new data file will be created Stop button - Logging will stop the data file will be closed Reset button - when pressed, will record the current offset setting of the 24 analogue channels and store these for use by the software Software in addition to logging the data, some optional real time maths will be required to process the data. The source code for the maths is available as VBscript. The new code needs to be reasonable quick, so a complied code such as c, c++ is suggested. The maths takes the instantaneous results from 32 of the analogue channels and creates another 6 channels This phase of the project can be prioritized as the last activity. Volume Initially I need 2 systems, 1 for the chosen supplier to develop and a mirror system for my remote investigation. Once we have a suitable stable platform, I expect to order a further 20 units Timescale The project can be started immediately by the chosen supplier. We would expect a delivery of the completed project with a 3 month time frame Project Deliverable All software source code, schematics, sketches and details of proprietary order parts. Breadboard hardware will be initially acceptable for proof of concept, but a robust PCB will be ultimately required towards the end of the development phase. The chosen supplier should also be prepared to support the project over the next phase, anticipated to be 2 years. Working and Financial Arrangements I am happy to purchase all required hardware and send this to the selected supplier. It is anticipated that the supplier will send updated hardware to Grey Space Ltd throughout the project. Fedex / DHL or other postal providers will be used and the cost reimbursed. Staged payments will be available, invoices submitted weekly and any additional agreed hardware can added to this invoice and will be paid weekly in arrears. Note, we are not electronics experts and part of the role will be to assist us in using the equipment remotely, so if we need to flash some updated software for example, please bear in mind that you will have to inform us of these processes.
