Hello AGAIN bidders! I am looking for a graphic designer pro or studio, that be interested to get engaged in this new project, that consists in a tour guide graphic design for a hostel association of our touristic town. This is an exciting project that will enroll the winner bidder in a long term contract, as the the intention is to release a new guide edition each 6 monthes. However, since I have posted this project this afternoon, I have received all sort of absurd messages from bidders that insists to not read carefully my project specifications. Then, please I would like to reinforce to **NOT BID BEFORE TO DOWNLOAD AND CAREFULLY READ THE ATTACHMENT, AND UNLESS YOU FULLY UNDERSTAND AND AGREE WITH THE CONDITIONS**. Beside that, keep in mind that I need a previous **_free mockup_** to be shown to my potential sponsors. This is not a cheap project, and it cannot go ahead without the sponsors, then the mockup is a MUST. I know that several coders are against free mockups, and I fully understand the point, so, if you are one of these coders, this project is not for you. Beside that, I expect that bidders send a bid ammount for the job. This way, please keep in mind that I will not consider ANY bidder post, unless it comes with: **- a realistic bid ammount for the job - an attachment containing a professional mockup ** Please, I repeat, please, do not even lose your time to bid on this project or to write a comment if you dont agree with that, or if you didnt downloaded/readed the attachment. I will ignore ANY post that do not fits that. I would like to apologize in advance to anyone if it seems to be rude, but, trust me, this is not the intention. I am just drowned in a pile of projects, and have no time to spend reading non-serious job proposals or funny messages. Regards, Yan Kleber de Moura ## Deliverables 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. 2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables): a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment. b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request. 3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement). * * *This broadcast message was sent to all bidders on Monday Jun 26, 2006 10:15:29 AM: Hello coders, I would like to start thanking specially the following coders, that seems to me that were the ones that got perfectly the spirit of my project scope: - krsman - dtp_xpert - egeshi - manojpal - chriscoast Some of these coders have mentioned: "I’ve read very carefully your project’s requirements and all is crystal clear." "Thank you for a detailed project description. It is written great." "I must say that is the best project briefing that I ever see." It really makes me believe that, fortunatelly, I didnt fail to pass the right message to the ones that decided to give a little time, evaluating the smallest details that I spent over 3 hours writing and revising the topics before to release it. As I mentioned in the scope and the attachment of my project, I have no time to keep answering fool questions that could be easily cleared by a carefull reading of the whole text, then I just ignored (and will keep ignoring) ANY further message from coders that I notice that even passed eyes over my briefing. If you are one of the 5 mentioned coders above, obviously, this is not your case. I would like to thank again the listed coders for understanding the real needing for the mockup, and believe that I am not trying to get a project for free. To help you guys to calm down about it, I would like to mention that although I am a newcomer buyer with as little as 3 completed projects, I am a veteran as a RAC coder, what makes me one of the more wild defenders of the good practices within this wonderful comunity called Rent-A-Coder. If you have the curiosity to check it out, please click in the following link and you will know who I am. That's me in the pic with my wife in our wedding day 4 years ago. [login to view URL] If you ar e curious to know why I dont want do the project by myself, once I have design skills, the answer is simple: if you browse my projects, you will notice that the most of them are Flash projects. I have worked for a long time as a graphic designer, but since a couple years ago I abandoned this industry, to dedicate myself to my programmer origins. Today, I have put design and programming together with Flash. However, due to my successfull past as a designer, from times to times people asks me to help them with their projects, and I should let you know that I definitivelly WILL earn this money; but as a project coordinator, not as a designer. :) ANSWERING REMAINING QUESTIONS I got some remaining questions that I would like to clearify: 1) This is specifically for the ones that didnt bid an amount(price): I would like that you dont worry about how much you are willing to charge me. Please, just bid how much to you think that your job val ues. I am not able to tell you the maximum bid I am expecting at this time, as we need to know the coder quotations to add it to our spreadsheet that will be introduced to the sponsors together with the mockups. It means, that I have not enough parameters to set a max bid at this time. All that I can tell you, is that, as a coder myself, I know that although price is important, it's not the more important thing. One of the worse things, in my opinion, is to work on a project when you feel that you are being underpaid. Then, if you think that your job values USD 1000, please dont bid USD 500; as I wouldnt like that you work on my project unsatisfied with the amount that you are going to receive at the end. In short, bid the value that you would be happy to receive by the job. I have mentioned and will repeat, that I will not be selecting the winner bidder exclusively by the price or just by the quality, but by the perfect balance between the two things. then, to have a quotation is a MUST. I cannot consider a mockup (by more breathless that it can be) without a quotation. So, dont forget that if you cannot provide me a bid amount, dont even lose your time to work on a mockup. 2) A couple coders asked me a PPD color profile for colour matching. I really couldnt provide it to you, as I never used them as a graphic designer; because I simply dont trust it. I already have seens great coleague designers to be killed by a unmatch printing just because they trusted in PPDs. So, if you have a Pantone CMYK match catalogue, just use it and enter the percentages directly in PageMaker. This is 100% reliable. This way we will be sure that the right percentages will be generated to the films, transferred to the plates, and correctly printed. If you put 20% yellow, that's will be in the paper after the printing. 3) Someone mentioned the RAC rules that do not allows hi-res or not-wa termarked mockups. I sincerelly am not worried about that. Just do it the way you think you should. It can be low-res or even watermarked (I dont bother about it), as I already mentioned and am repeating AGAIN, this mockup is just an aid to help us to convince our potential sponsors to give their money to us and make the project come true! The only thing that I really need is something beauty, because an ugly mockup will not help - LOL ! These mockups will not be offset printed, but just laser printed, so anything you can provide me that reach an acceptable quality and good enough to make the sponsors says "Wow!", that's it. Remember, the mockups will not be used as a final work. They are just a rough (but beauty) sample. 4) One of you guys showed me to be very interested in the project, but told me to be worried about the fact that couldnt send a mockup before the middle of this week (he asked me if it will be too late). Well, I alrea dy mentioned it, and will repeat: I am in hurry but not desperated. So, bids with complete mockups that comes to my inbox up to next july 3 will be fine, what gives to you coders, still 7 days (a full week). 5) Still, someone asked me how much pages I wanted to the mockup. I don't need too much, even because I know how hard is to spend hours working over something that maybe will never become a real job. Then, I dont want to push you so much, because know that you guys have other things to do. This way, I had an idea that I think that will work ok with us, and will be more objective. That's the deal: provide me 1 page mockup (Yes, just ONE!) ASAP, regarding to the hostel page. This page must have 3-4 pictures (one of the fronthead of the hostel and a couple ones of the internal facilities - please research Google for "campos do jordao" in the pictures section - you will find a lot - for the internal facilities you can use any cool hot el picture; the text (see text at the end); some small captions in the pictures; and any graphic aid you want. We are thinking about to have about 4 icons to represent price level, acomodation level, etc. We dont know yet which symbols we will use, but we want something easy to understand and relevant. The page must save some space in the foot to the sponsor (maybe VISA credit card or such, I hope). If possible send it to me in about 1-2 days. Then I will show the mockups to the president of the hostels association, and will decide with her wich ones matched what we are looking for. Then, I will contact again all of you that captured the right sense, to go deeper in a mockup with more. However, I am sure that the final mockup will have not more than 4-5 pages total. But for now, please make just this ONE. Oh, BTW: I would like to receive this mockup in PDF format! 6) Someone asked me if I would like that the mockup would be done in my native language. I confess that at first sight, I was not bothering about that, but thinking again something signed me that if I present a mockup in english, maybe the sponsor could think that I am using a ready-to-go template instead a custom design. Then, I think that this observation was very wise. Because that, I am sending a portuguese text attached, that you can use for the mockups. 7) Finally, someone asked me: do you want the final version JUST in PageMaker 6.5? The answer is: YES! Here in Brasil we use basically PageMaker and InDesign, but MOST of printers have a resistence to use any program but PageMaker 6.5. Because I am not searching to get a problem but a solution, I prefer to keep on this track. Well, coders, once more, thank you for your attention! Let's start on mockups! Best regards, Yan Kleber de Moura ************************************ * * *This broadcast message was sent to all bidders on Wednesday Jun 28, 2006 12:50:34 PM: Hello biders, I am getting a little concerned about my timeframe. I have asked for some of the interested bidders to present me a 1-page mockup in 1-2 days and since then I hadnt heard about that from anyone. Please, I need some feedback ASAP, otherwise I will need to cancel this project and try some local designer. It would be a shame, as I sincerelly would prefer to give this job to a RAC coder. Regards, Yan Kleber * * *This broadcast message was sent to all bidders on Monday Jul 3, 2006 11:37:43 AM: Hello coders! I would like sincerelly to thank every one of you that participate of this "contest" and sent the mockups. I will meet the hostel association president tonight, and we will decide together for the mockup that best fits our needings. I would like to let you know, that beside you - RAC coders - there is two local (brazilian, not RAC) designers participating. Finally, I would like sincerelly to apologize to the coders that DIDN'T put a bid ammount, as they were automatically put off of the contest. I really sorry about that, however this fact was warned several times, as I underlined even in the scope of the project as well in the broadcasted messages that the bid amount was a MUST, and that ANY mockup without a bid would be ignored. I really sorry. Well, that's it for now. I will be announcing tomorrow (but not picking a winner yet), the winner designer. Best regards, Yan Kleber de Moura ## Platform Adobe Page Maker 6.5
