I would like to set letters that identify the 8 devices--6 hard drives and 2 DVD-RAM units--that would be permanent.
For example, let's say I would like to designate J: and K: as the letters for two hard drives and L: and M: for the two DVD drives.
When I turn on my computer, I may only turn on drive K: and then while working, need to use drive L: I want to make sure that the drives are seen as K:and L: and not assigned letters in sequence as Microsoft's customary setup dictates.
Further, I have a second computer, NOT networked, but accessed via a KVM switch, which I want to be able to "see" the same permanent drive letters of those devices as necessary.
I have tried to configure and install USBDLM (a freeware program for individuals, available with documentation at [login to view URL]), but I'm afraid that my technical expertise is not up to the task. I am open to your using that program to solve this issue if it is the answer, or a different solution that will work.
Note: I am aware of the Disk Management feature offered in Microsoft XP, but it does not make permanent changes, and thus is not a solution.
