The assignment is to set up Apache under Linux with a portal and implement a custom RESTful API.
1) Set up Apache server on Linux
2) Set up portal
Use a standard, free portal package. Required functionality
- register user; confirm user email
- post news, articles, files to portal
- mailing list to subscribers (with unsubscribe)
- track user API daily activity in terms of API CPU time and API bandwidth usage
- user can add custom profile fields that are passed to API
3) Set up, implement a basic Web API
- RESFful API
- JSON representation
- WSGI framework with Python
- HTTPS and HTTP

- user GETs CPU time, API bandwidth usage and task priority for today
- "process" request: user POSTs multimedia data (image or video or sound or array of data) with some metadata (length, data type, etc.) API launches server-side processing, computes task priority, launches server-side processing with the computed priority, passes on POST/GET data, returns server-side processing results, tracks server-side time spent on CPU (actual CPU resources spent), tracks user request I/O bandwidth and updates user daily usage, which can be queried over API and seen through the portal
- "submit" request: user POSTS multimedia data, similar to above, API launches a different server-side processing
- ability to redirect API request to another server; target server URI is specified in user profile Implementation of server-side processing is not part of this assignment. For this assignment, just create some stub Python server-side code for testing.
