Aim: Change the encoding of a CSV file automatically.
Issue: If [login to view URL] is opened in Notepad it is encoded as ANSI.
I want this saved as [login to view URL] with it encoded as Unicode (as per Notepad conventions).
Then [login to view URL] will be exactly the same as [login to view URL] (which is only supplied so you know what I am expecting).
Manual Solution:
1) Open Notepad
2) Open [login to view URL]
3) change encoding to Unicode
4) Save As [login to view URL]
This solution works manually.
Automated Solution:
I want an automated solution for this simple process.
I have built one in VBA using SendKeys, which works when I run it.
However, I need a solution which runs headless on a server, hence cannot use SendKeys.
The Project:
Automate this process without using SendKeys.
One possibility is to build this solution in VBA, as long as it can run headless on a server.
Another possibility is to build a module in .NET (either VB.NET or [login to view URL]) which does not have the requirement of running headless on a server.
Note that [login to view URL] is created from an Excel file, [login to view URL] (Save As: Filename: FileA, Save As Type: CSV).
Alternatively, I would accept as a solution, some VBA code which saves the Sample sheet from [login to view URL] directly as [login to view URL] as long as it was encoded as Unicode.
Let me know if you can supply a solution which works and your quote for the work.
Hi,
I can provide a solution written in .NET, a windows service - it doesn't need any user intervention. Will monitor a given folder and any new file found is saved as unicode. Please let me know if that solution is good enough for you. Any suggestions are welcomed.

I have gone through the description. What i suggest is
1- We will make the program in C# . It will automatically read the File A in a Binary Form, and we will convert the encoding of this Binary stuff and again Convert back to Text to be saved as File B in new encoding i-e Unicode, All this process will be automatic
-----> My question is from where we will get the File A, should the program browse file or there will be some specific location from where the program picks File A ?
Hello.
I am a VBA and .Net developer.
To meet your requirement of on a server, I can build a small C# console app to change the file encoding and output a new Unicode file.

Hi,
Hope you are doing well.
I have done many such conversion tools using C#.NET and excel interop. I can do this encoding conversion with required output.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Thanks!
I have years of programming experience and I can get this done for you today.
