Copy editing of M.S - Popular Culture/Philosophy (130,000 words)

Hi there

I'm seeking to edit and self publish my M.S (130,000 words) in the popular philosophy/culture genre. My previous freelance editor has started a family so i’m in the position of forging a new relationship with an editor.

A few questions below, the first one will probably command the rest of them

1. You may be busy with other clients, how soon are you available to edit if this project fits? (Draft is ready to send- its had many redrafts and been bettered each time)

2. Would you provide a sample edit for me to test your suitability? ( thanks if you can specify your sample world count for me to send in word doc)

3. Experience in editing popular culture/ philosophy books? (these can include self help, social science, public affairs- and other related books of non fiction)

4. Have references from editing clients i could contact? (if in your profile please let me know to check it out)

5. Experience in E-book/Kindle publishing (not necessary but helpful)

6. Your rates for Copyediting? (What i need is someone to help me achieve the final polish before self -publishing. To hunt our typos and errors, of course, but also let me know if i’ve done things like repeated words, repeated concepts, or if passages are clunky or confusing)

The following goals of mine would be the ideal milestones (They’re ambitious and should not be seen as a MUST, but something we could aim at accomplishing together... also i may be missing something here you will highlight)

A. Cut it to 100k words (As mostly everyone i’d love to make the M.S shorter without losing its soul given its likely to lead to a higher readership)

B. Allow a teenager to understand whats been written (i’ve scrapped as much academic language as possible but some barnacles may still remain)

C. Making it relevant in a practical "how to" way for everyday readers (Explaining is not enough, showing a reader how to put into practice whats explained is what i hope to achieve)

Summary of book:

The book seeks a rational and science focused answer to the question, “What is the Meaning of Life?” In proposing an answer, it hopes to do for society, what evolution did for biology. It covers many topics, due to the foundational question it aims to answer. A comic strip story runs throughout the book to break down concepts which may be difficult to understand. As well as other images to make it easily share-able online.

Books which may be templates for the type of writing i’m aiming for:

#Four hour Work week - Tim Ferriss

#Obstacle is the way -Ryan Holiday

#The One thing - Gary Keller

Many thanks, and look forward to hearing from you

Cheers, Vito
