Collect CEO Appointment Data for US Firms

Data Collection Needed: Building a Dataset The deliverable product is a spreadsheet with data on CEO appointment dates and information on whether they have non-compete clauses in their contracts. The largest publicly traded firms in the US are listed on three exchanges, NASDAQ, NYSE, and AMEX. The firms listed on these three exchanges comprise the starting point for this sample. Federal Securities rules in the US require firms to disclose any employment contracts that they have entered into with their Chief Executive Officer. We want to look at the contracts of newly appointed CEOs of publicly listed firms from Jan 1, 2000 to Dec 31, 2014. This data collection involves 4 steps Step 1: Determine firms with at least one change in CEO since Jan 1, 2000. Step 2: Determine all of the CEO changes during the time period for each firm Step 3: Classify the CEO appointment with regards to his/her prior affiliation with the firm, their gender, and HQ address Step 4: Determine whether there is a Non-Competition clause in the agreement between each CEO and the firm More details for each step are included in the Data Collection PDF file below. The delivered project will be an extended version of the attached sample spreadsheet. The sample spreadsheet shows the results for this type of analysis for 25 CEO appointments over the past few years.
