Bluetooth network scanner
The purpose of this project is to identify Bluetooth devices that pass into range of a detection station.
This project is similar in function to many Bluetooth network scanning programs such as:

The primary difference is that this system will run with no GUI, it is totally a background application to run as a Windows XP service.
The application will start as a Windows service and load operating parameters from an xml file that you will design. Parameters of this xml file will include the scan frequency in seconds, the location identifier for this detection station, SQL login string and other parameters that are necessary. You are to determine and suggest such parameters.
The output will be a SQL record for each device detection instance. In other words, for every scan, one or more Bluetooth devices will be discovered. Each individual Bluetooth device detected will have a SQL record written. If a device appears in subsequent discovery passes it will still have an additional SQL entry written on these subsequent scans. So every device found in every pass gets a SQL record.
We will use Microsoft SQL in the beginning, but the code must be portable to MySQL at a later date. Likewise the original deployment environment is Microsoft .NET and C# on Windows XP running as a service, but a migration to Linux will be in the future.
The columns in the SQL database will be:
Location identifier (from the parameter file) 40 characters
Date / Time to one second accuracy
Device address (Bluetooth BD_ADDR)
Device Type (if available)
Device name (if available)
Update registered (always set to 0 by this application)
You will be given access to an xp machine with a static ip address and remote desktop enabled. This machine will have one or more Bluetooth USB devices attached.
Please also give a quotation for porting the application to Linux.
