This opportunity offers the unique chance of combing my passions in life – sport and writing. The position being offered is as close to a perfect job description as I could wish for.
Firstly, I am a sport fanatic. My life revolves around sport. I have represented my country in youth cricket, I captained my university football team, am a Swansea City season ticket holder, I did athletics, football and tennis at University, and in my spare time, I am either reading about or watching sport. I have played and coached cricket in Australia, hockey toured in South Africa, watched boxing in Las Vegas, and played cricket in Barbados and Croatia. At first glance, these interests may not appear to be essential experiences. However, I believe having a feel and empathy for playing and watching sport is a prerequisite for successful sports writing. Understanding a sport’s past, future and present is imperative to producing an in-depth, informed, detailed, analytical piece or writing
I pride myself on my vast and varied sporting knowledge. I believe I offer an unrivalled love and obsession for all things sport, and have an appreciation for a huge array of sports. Without such a personal love of sport, how can you resonate with your readership?
That being said, as much as I love sport, I keep abreast of all current affairs. From the South African rugby world cup in 1995, England boycotting Zimbabwe in 2003, Putin’s $50bn Winter Olympics, to the mass protests in Brazil against the World Cup
