The Project is an overall assessment of a human resource department at a health care institute and/or organization. Several components of this assessment will be presented in your readings, lectures, as well as, class discussion. The project assessment should include, but is not limited to, the following:  General overview of the organization, institute, or agency, (e.g. history, population served, facilities, number of employees, etc.);  The organizational structure of the Human Resource Department;  The training and development components of the department;  The recruitment and selection process of employees;  Performance evaluation of employees;  Discuss the elements designed to create a safe and healthy work environment;  Identifying means of compensation and initiatives for employees;  Assess the current status of diversity and means of developing cultural competency among employees *(Supplemental resources regarding the assessment of cultural competency within organizations is listed below.)  Identify what specific information interested you or would interest you in becoming a potential employee;  Recommendations for improvement. Instructions: It is expected that you utilized various means for gathering this information. For example, you may interview HR management and staff, the organizational employees, critique recruitment and selection information, critique marketing information (e.g. brochures, pamphlets, etc.), view websites, review office policies and procedures (where accessible), and interview ‘customers’ of the services rendered. The student will submit a final paper to the instructor and post a summation of the project process for class review by posting it in the discussion section under student projects. Keep in mind that the information you will be sharing with your peers is not a “copy” of the paper but a summation of the project experience itself. The final paper is to be 10-12 pages, (which does not include the title page, diagrams, and/or references), double space, 12 size font. It will be best to review the rubric evaluation sheet which will keep you focus on what will be graded. Please indicate a subtitle for each section that is being addressed. What are the most challenging priorities of the multi-ethnic and cultural nature of the healthcare organization? 3. What are the major organizational obstacles inhibiting ethnic and cultural understanding among staff, patient’s, providers, etc? 4. What has the healthcare organization done to provide the best care for the multi-ethnic and cultural patient population? 5. What services, programs, etc. are available to staff regarding ethnic/cultural-related issues?
