Contest Brief

Desired product:

I have a sketch which I want created into a simple but artistic digital drawing. I'm going to project the piece of digital art onto a wall and paint it onto the wall myself. I'm just hopeless at drawing, so I need your help!

Background:

This drawing will be part of a puzzle. People will need to find four symbols in the drawing, and then look those symbols up in a book to get a code. We'll probably make it about 1.5 metres long.

There will be two stages to this work:

1. You'll make the picture following the description of what I'm after. It'll get to a point where I'll say yes, that's what I want.
2. I'll ask for you to add four symbols into the picture. Hopefully not too much extra work.

Description of the desired drawing:

The drawing is a little story when read from left to right. The story is the dream of an anti-Nazi resistance group. It starts at a Nazi rally, then a grand building is destroyed (implicitly from war), and from the ruins of the fascist regime comes peace. There are four parts to the drawing:

a. Far left: A fascist rally is taking place. The leader salutes from a stage, and a mass of followers returns the salute. There is a Nazi eagle symbol on a pole beside the leader. (The eagle looking a bit like http://l7.alamy.com/zooms/c60fa2b0277e401198b4ee6157793e7f/hitler-adolf-2041889-3041945-german-politician-nsdap-fuehrer-and-reich-bbngm0.jpg)

b. Second from left: At the back of the crowd is the Reichstag: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/87/Mass_demonstration_in_front_of_the_Reichstag_against_the_Treaty_of_Versailles.jpg . The half of the building closest to the rally is in pristine condition; the right half of it has been destroyed by war (https://martinmilinski.files.wordpress.com/2010/05/reichstag-1945.jpg). The right side is looking even worse than in that photo, more in a skeleton condition like this: https://www.trumanlibrary.org/photographs/2007-49.jpg

c. The eagle on a pole is to the right of the building, now broken and at a severe angle. To the right of it there is little on the ground, maybe a park bench. In the air is a dove, which seems to have flown out of that broken eagle statue.

d. A peaceful forest, where the dove is flying out to the distance.

I have drawn a little sketch to give an idea. (Excuse the laughable drawing.) Some things to note:

- I haven't drawn a park bench, but I tried a kind of path leading into the forest. It didn't work very well, and I'm hoping a park bench would be better.
- My sense of proportion is terrible. I hope yours would be better.
- I haven't even tried to draw a dove. I didn't try because I knew I would make it look like a flying cat or something.
- I haven't drawn many people at the rally. More would probably be good.

The style:

I'm after something simple, probably something in the vein of stencil art like these:

- http://www.spstencils.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/dove.jpg
- http://www.nvamoutloud.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/2014-ASM-Artworks_102.jpg (this one is beautiful, but probably a bit too detailed)

The level of detail I have in my sketch for the people is about what I'm after, though I suppose more detail will have to go into other sections of the story-drawing as a whole.

Remember that we'll project this onto a wall and paint it onto the wall - so it needs to be fairly simple for us to do that.

A single colour is probably best, although two or three colours could be used, if you think it would help.

Thanks!

Hi, thanks for the question. Yes, I imagine that when we put it on the wall, it will be about 1.5 m in length; the height I suppose would be something like 0.5-0.75 m. The dimensions are flexible, however - we have a lot of wall!
