Contest Brief

THE JOB:
I need an image produced to print a mural of wings, for taking pictures w people in front. See attached files for examples of several I found on the internet and liked. To get the idea right, imagine a person about 5 ft 2 in (157 cm) to 5 ft 11” (180 cm) standing in front (ie total height… without shoes/heels) and having their picture taken.

FORMAT:
Adobe Illustrator Vector Art, producing an .ai file.
The final output will be printed onto canvas. The front-facing image will be 54” wide x 87.5” tall. As the print will be gallery-wrapped around a 1.5” thick frame, the image you make will be designed to 60” x 93.5” (but again, the image facing the front will be 54” x 87.5”)

OVERALL LOOK/FEEL: it should have a sexy/sensual, but light-hearted / playful aesthetic.

NECESSARY ELEMENTS:
1) ***MUST FIT WITHIN THE SPECIFIED DIMENSIONS*** [SEE THE .ai FILE, OR THE .jpg FILE LABELED "DIMENSIONS AND LAYOUT"]
2) Wings
3) Halo
4) Devil’s tail [try to make the tail so that it will still show well with a person standing in front of it]
5) Blank space up top for projecting words onto (See attached .ai file)
6) A nice background

BONUS POINTS FOR INCORPORATING **ELEMENTS** OF TEXAS / AUSTIN (without overwhelming the primary aesthetic of the wings).

ADDITIONAL BONUS POINTS: see the “Angels Kissing” example… Would be great if there is something in the middle of the picture like this so the piece stands alone as well even when somebody is not in front of it.

OTHER POSSIBLE ELEMENTS / IDEAS:
1) Tropical flowers: large hibiscus on one side, large Calla Lilliy on the other; near the center

    ELEMENTS:
    #26 - LOVE the beautiful integration of the GUITAR in the center, the BUTTERFLIES engulfing the guitar, the tasteful and smoothly aded HIBISCUS flowers on one side, and the CALLA LILIES on the other side… along w some greenery, and the parrot flying around in the background… allll beautiful!!

    #28 - LOVE the parrots in the middle!! SO cute!!! I also like the subtle way in which the UT Longhorn and hibiscus were incorporated into the wings. I like the Live Music Capital.

    OVERALL SHAPE OF WINGS
    From the entries thus far, I like the UP-and-OPEN wings better than the down/closed wings. For example: #30 (BEST! LOVE overall shape, GORGEOUS!), #34 , #16 , #31 .

    COLORS:
    Best: #1 , #8 , #9 / #29, #31 , #14 , #17; #26 (this one is a bit weird for me… i LOVE it, but maybe too purple?). With #34 , I’m a bit conflicted… i LOVE having different colors on left vs right, and i LOVE the overall color coordination… but I also love other entries with symmetric colors. Hmmm.

    FEATHERS:
    I love the more-CRISP and also DETAILED feathers. This may be a rendering issue for some of your entries… like maybe they got pixelated? Or maybe some of you are not designing in vector? Examples of feathers I like: #1 , #8 , #9, #14 , #17, maybe #26 (but might be low-resolution output?), #34 . I also Love the wispy-type feathers as well… like #30 .

    #28 : I love the parrots in the middle and incorporation of "Live Music Capitol" (fyi, should be "capital" with an 'a'... the 'o' was my error in the description; fixed), and the Don't Mess w Texas! Makes it more unique and very local! Good work!

    Separately, the other elements COULD be integrated into the wings and/or the background. I am leaving all that up to the artists' imagination to see what they can do... getting some balance of elegant-tasteful, but still making it unique and custom for Austin Texas. Thank you!!

    Hi Rozella! So, I'm leaving that a bit open. Ideally I would like something like angels kissing in the middle, if it can be done well (the one example of this I found is in the file labeled "Angels Kissing Wings.jpg"

    Your post describes large wings as a mural to photograph with people standing in front of them as in the attachments you shared. You also mention the idea of kissing angels, did you want the wings on them, or are you asking they, and the other elements be included in the feather design of the wings? Thanks.
