Assessment 2: Video essay Throughout this Semester you have been learning about key changes in film, television, animation and digital games. In this second assessment item, we would like you to create a video essay that discusses a specific technological change in screen history. Your video essay should be modelled on examples like the following: [login to view URL] The following video also provides some tips and advice about video essays: [login to view URL] While Assessment 1 focused on a specific text (and its industry and/or audience implications), the aim of Assessment 2 is to discuss the implications of a specific technological change in the screen industries. Your video essay should: Discuss the textual, industry and audience implications of the technological innovation Contain a combination of still and moving images and voice over exposition. You can ‘grab’ video footage from online sources using a tool like videograbber: [login to view URL] A voice over script should be presented as a word document uploaded separately to your video essay. This script should show evidence of substantial research – at least 6 valid sources (all research sources should be bibliographically listed at the end of the script). Take the form of a legitimate academic video essay. That is, while the video should be engaging and technologically competent, the focus should be on presenting high quality research about your chosen screen innovation. Be made with whatever video editing software is available to you. Be presented as a single video file (details for submitting this to follow). NB: For the purpose of this assessment, your work is covered by the fair use clause in the Australian copyright legislation. Therefore, you can use materials for which permission has not been sought.
