Linux winbind password expiration on graphical login

We have Ubuntu workstations(10.04 to 13.04) joined to a Samba Domain Controller with winbind and PAM modules. Login is not possible in GDM when the users password is in expiration state. The issue is clearly described here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm/+bug/613371 What I need is a script that: * Checks password expiration date and, if its 7 days or less, alert the user. * Launch a dialog to change the user password(you could use zenity, xdialog, etc or just run an interactive shell prompt) The script could be written in any language but should run on Ubuntu desktops from 10.04 to 13.04 and 100% of its software dependencies must be available on Ubunut official repositories

You would get better bids if you verify your account. It signals to freelancers you will not rip them off. One little question remains, does: chage -l $USER give a correct expiration date on AD connected stations ?

Actualmente, trabajo en IBM desde 2008, soportando +2000 servidores corriendo diferentes versiones de Unix/Linux. Administro Debian y Ubuntu desde su primer version, y tengo amplia experiencia en ese campo tambien. Si te parece, podemos charlar por PM o skyper para tener mas detalles del requerimiento. Se me ocurria enviar un email con un "friendly reminder" al usuario unos dias antes de la caducidad de la pasword, con un link o script que ejecute localmente para cambiar su password, inclusive el sistema la puede cambiar automaticamente y enviarle la nueva password generada por correo.
