Write some Software to protect a VM

I have various pieces of software that i want to install on separate VMs and allow people to borrow for a limited time. The perfect software would allow me to give someone a usb drive with the VM on it and then on a certain time/date render the software, VM or both unusable. It would need to be able to stay active even if the VM was copied and not just rely on the time on the VM so if they kept changing the date back or running new copies they couldn't keep using it. I'd prefer if it didn't rely on an internet connection to operate. Also if there was some kind of usb dongle solution, not preference but would consider. Also it would great if they called up wanting to extend the time, i could give them a unique code that would extend it for a period of time.
