I am conducting a content analysis on tweenager (8-12 year old) magazines. I need some who can carry out the following data analysis plan.
Analytical Steps:
First, a Pearson’s chi-square test will be conducted to examine if there is an association between type of magazine and type of content. The levels of magazine type will involve American Girl, Discovery Girl, and New Moon. The levels of content type will include beauty content and non-beauty content.
Subsequently, a Pearson’s chi-square test will be employed to explore if there is an association between type of magazine and type of content in further detail. The levels of magazine type will involve American Girl, Discovery Girl, and New Moon. The levels of content type will include achievement, beauty, culture, domestic life, entertainment, health, relationships, and social issues.
Finally, a Pearson’s chi-square test will be performed to investigate if there is an association between type of magazine and type of pictures. The levels of magazine type will involve American Girl, Discovery Girl, and New Moon. The levels of picture type will include beauty pictures and non-beauty pictures.
The strength of association will be examined by Cramer’s V, while standardized residuals will be consulted for post hoc testing.
Data Preparation:
Considering the format of your data (total count data instead of individual scores for each case), three frequency variables will be created and cases will be weighted prior to conducting any analysis.
In order to calculate the frequency of non-beauty content (required for the first analysis), I will add the frequencies included in the following categories of non-beauty content: Achievement, beauty, culture, domestic life, entertainment, health, relationships, and social issues.
The assumption of minimum expected counts will be assessed to determine if it is appropriate to proceed with the inferential analyses.
Data Report:
The first section of the report will include a presentation of the research aims and hypotheses, as well as of the analyses to be conducted.
Afterwards, the results of the assumption testing will be reported (2nd section) and followed by the results of the inferential analyses (3rd section). Visual aids will be used to enhance the readability of the report and levels of understanding.
The last section will summarize the key findings of the research.
The estimated length of the report is 5 to 8 pages.
