Create a responsive WordPress template based on existing design

About The Tolkien Society The Tolkien Society is an educational charity based in the United Kingdom with over 1,200 members across the world. It is a literary society devoted to promoting the life and works of J.R.R. Tolkien, author of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. It launched a new website in April 2014. Although this helped transform the Society’s public image and ability to fulfil its educational remit, the static design has become antiquated with the rise of responsive website development. [login to view URL] Project Main objective: To create a responsive WordPress theme based as closely as possible on the design of the existing website. The existing website uses a bespoke WordPress theme and custom plugins to achieve several features: A news section (which is just the built-in post type). A blog section (which is a custom post type with its own archive pages and month/name permalinks). An events section (which is a custom post type with its own archive pages). Ordinary pages (most of which use a template identical to news and blog posts, but top-level parent pages include the featured images, title, and subtitle of the child pages). A members’ area (which requires an user account to access). It is not the aim of the project to recreate the existing website in its entirety. All of the ‘back end’ features will be developed by our own team. Instead the aim is to create the new and responsive ‘front end’ design. The developer can ignore feature no. 5 entirely. Features nos 1 and 4 require nothing more than WordPress itself. For feature no. 2, the developer is advised to create a basic plugin to setup a custom post type with archives enabled; the new theme needs to have a design for the archive page and for individual blog posts. Do not worry about the permalink structure. For feature no. 3, simply install the events calendar plugin and ensure the theme can accommodate it fully. The developer should ignore the 'Become a Member', 'Donate', 'Press', and 'Contact' pages of the existing website, but the new theme should include styles for responsive forms and form elements.
