A new start-up is designing an exciting new browser game whose primary technologies are Javascript client-side, and python server-side with MySQL. This game is a browser based sci-fi society game, where rank and wealth goes hand-in-hand with privilege and power. The day-to-day of the game involves a free-form interaction with an online society and job-list (small mini-games). One chooses their own path up the ranks of a social hierarchy, whether by wealth or militaristic endeavor. A player can choose what jobs to take, what to own, how to interact with others in their clan, and even what laws one passes down to their subordinates. This freedom is built into the game, leaving the success of a player up to their own ability and dedication alone. We need a masterful programmer to implement the design concepts of our browser game. There will likely be well defined parameters and numerous paid milestones. Integration of your code into our coding base and style is desirable, however input and advice is absolutely valued. The ability to revisit code and add functionality to it is essential. If you are interested in the project so far please read the attached two page introduction before providing an initial quote, once I contact you I can communicate more details and a revised quote can be discussed. ## Deliverables Also found in attachment: Desert Game Developer's Intro 1. Game Background 2. Development Specifics 3. Program Mechanics 4. Current Progress 5. Future Development **Game Background** The game Desert World is a browser-based massive multiplayer online strategy game set on a futuristic desert world. Of browser games this game is most similar to a text based game, although pictures-link driven events play a much larger role. A player completes jobs which are mini-games to earn money and titles with the goal of moving up a economic hierarchy. The world of a player consists of a city divided into a class based hierarchy of real players in which class is mainly determined by the economic status of a player. The types and number of jobs a player does to earn money are determined mainly by the individual's effort and their wealth. Interactions between players happen by a rule system in which one player has authority over some task (such as how works is done, or how a group votes a leader, etc.) and can transfer that authority to one or more other users (including as many parts of the original task as developers account for). The website I want this game to be most similar to is <[login to view URL]> **Development Specifics** The game in it's current state utilizes the following technologies: Python, Javascript, HTML, MySQL. All of these tools are easy to learn, but learning subtle uses takes more time, as in Javascript. This means that a motivated, smart all around hero coder that is great at getting results produced is more important than knowledge of the tools necessary for this project. The mechanics of this game are mainly handled by server-side instance driven scripting. **Program Mechanics** A user sends a request to the server which is handled by a standard request reader. This request is then linked by name to a script that handles the request. The request can pass in variables as need be. A script then manipulates the variables, accesses and manipulates the back-end database, and produces a webpage string which is passed back to the caller's browser. Different requests can occur across the same webpage because the webpage is laid out in frames. **Current Progress** Current work so far has focused on creating the above templating system, and creating one mini-game for each class in one side of the hierarchy. There are around 10 classes of which 3 have mini-games that have been created up to proof of concepts. The mini-games include mostly Farmville like activities that use Javascript's DOM to handle tile-based games. Some of these mini-games can be found by going to: <[login to view URL]> and logging in with Username: Gropper and password: Doom12 In Shop Apprentice Game: One moves around a store interacting with walls and hotspots that link to other screens (like a store exit or a shelves inventory). Later one will be able to move inventory around the store (I.E. from boxes onto shelves). In Mill Game: The process of milling some raw goods is elaborated, it is then put into inventory. Boxes on platform are clickable as are Claw w/Box, Nozzle(multiple times/box), and bin (puts items into inventory) In Farm Game: You have a grid of land. Each tile has the status of the crop. Selecting the center image in the header allows you to change the mode you are in to do another farm related task. To reset everything to dirt run this script: <[login to view URL]> Professional images will be added in later by an artist. Currently only place-holder images are used. **Future Development** The first stage of production includes around 5 more mini-games of a similar nature. A map feature will also need to be implemented from a map data structure already in place and populated with roads. On top of the tile based map will be images of buildings which will be made on the fly as need be from layers of transparent sub-images. This will be alpha level progress. The next stage of progress will include creating rules for jobs (mini-games), a job board, and initial rules for group interactions. More jobs will be added to lower level classes. This will be sufficient for initial beta release. The work done so far accounts for approximately 20% of all coding needed to be done, if it is left intact. The background coding for *each* mini-game is as intricate as a version of Farmville would be, however handling of graphics is much easier in a browser format.
