DESCRIPTION:
Individual or team needed to develop a working prototype (Beta) of collaborative shopping wireless Java midlet immediately. The features on the midlet are enumerated in the attached document ("UC & UI_List-abbrev_v1.1.xls") under the tab entitled "Mobile-Features". Features include but are not limited to: login, development of a price comparison engine, development of a ratings engine, and others. The team should be prepared to work with a team of Web developers who will develop the core web functionality. Another team will be working on procuring data with spiders.
YOU:
The Java development team will work on a Java midlet which will exchange information with the MySQL databases; this will be accomplished by parsing information via either XML (KXML) or pass variables via the POST command in PHP. (Servlets would be ideal but the need to expedite the development process to meet the deadline rules this approach out.) The midlet will be communicating using GPRS (SMS will be an option in future releases). As such, you will need to liaise with the Web development team for them to provide any PHP code you might require to pass data from the database server to the midlet via HTTP post variables; also, the liaison needs to coordinate the access to the MySQL database to ensure the schemas remain consistent.
OTHER TEAMS:
The Web development team will use PHP, JavaScript (AJAX), CSS, DHTML, and XHTML and any other technologies as needed. Rudimentary HTML pages with CSS and JavaScript have been created to mock-up the business process flow. Additionally, a majority of the Use Cases and User Interface documents have been completed for each of the features enumerated in the attached listing.
A Data Procurement team will be responsible for creating spiders to crawl various websites which provide structured data. In the attachment we provide a short listing of sites from where we want to obtain information. (Note that this list may be updated before the start of the job.) The data will be imported into a MySQL database and the database schema is being finalized. This team will also be responsible for creating scripts which will execute the spiders in a batch process on a periodic basis. Therefore, scripts should be written to handle the update or deletion of existing records or creation of new records.
