I am currently working on a very basic PHP/MySQL solution for displaying used cars on a webpage. It uses PHP to interact with a MySQL database. In addition, there is a simple admin interface to enter the vehicle information (e.g. year, make, model, description).
The admin is extremely simple and only has options for "Add New Vehicle", "View" "Edit" "Delete"
So far so good... except now I need to add images.
I need the Admin portion to allow up to 6 images to be uploaded. The images need to have a maximum file size of 500K each. Files need to be limited to JPEG or GIF. The user should be able to on a single form enter the vehicle info, browse their computer for up to six images in 6 different fields and then submit the form to add to the database.
The images uploaded should be automatically saved as thumbnails in addition to the original large image. Some drop down menus would be nice for things like Make, Model, Transmission, Color. We tried some drop downs but once a vehicle was added to the database, the admin user would see a headline showing the vehicle was successfully added. However, the drop downs would revert back to the initial value (just on screen- database was still correct). This caused quite a bit of confusion so we eliminated drop downs. If you have a solution great.
On the Web Page that customers see we need the following:
Initial page listing a single thumbnail (from image #1) image along with some vehicle info. The thumbnail along with the vehicle link to more detailed info.
The more detail link should display the large image 1 of the vehicle with up to 5 more thumbnails beneath the large image. The full text detail and description are then below the thumbnails.
It is important that whoever does this project provide good commenting as we may use this same PHP script on another project.
I hope this makes sense. Please contact me if you have any questions or need more detail.
You can view the current text only car listing at:

Originally the script automatically looked for images that were named the same as the stock # and displayed them. However, it was too difficult for the sales people to rename images and ftp them so we created the admin system so simple anyone can use.
I've attached a screenshot to give you an idea of the admin pages and the web page listing/detail.
I hope this makes sense
