Seeking (Long Term) Experienced Developer For Highload AWS App

We're looking for a Rails developer who can work approx 15-20 hours per week for a long-term period in order to maintain our current website and build a new one.

We're looking for a cool guy (or gal) with a flexible, open mindset & working rhythm, and who loves a challenge.

We are NOT looking for a firm with a team of Ruby experts working 5 days a week and who are not available on the weekend.

In short, we are a test prep company that helps students succeed with their exams and, after being with us for over 7 years, our main programmer is looking to retire.

Expert knowledge of the following languages is required:

Ruby + Rails 5

Javascript

React

AWS, specifically Elastic Beanstalk and S3

Most importantly, we are looking for a sharp programmer, someone who is fast but doesn't' make mistakes. Perfectionists: please apply.

We have a live exam preparation website on which hundreds of students practice with paid exams every day. It's therefore (obviously) extremely important that you are an expert and know what you're doing.

If there is ever an emergency, we need to be able to reach you, and you need to be able to come and work on the website ASAP. We will of course pay extra for emergency work (and this should not happen on a regular basis, but it does happen about once every 4 months... of course it all depends on how often you "f up" and new "bugs" are created).

If you're not a perfectionist, we can be very hard to work with. If you are a perfectionist and a great programmer (who also is able to communicate in proper English), we should get along perfectly and we hope to form a great long lasting work relationship.

With regards to the actual job:

In the first week(s), we'd like you to focus on getting a deep understanding of our exam prep website coding, in case of emergencies, site misbehavior or bugs popping up.

After the initial phase, you'll be given tons of challenges, such as

- the creation of a new test-taking platform and a new (custom built) membership website;

- working on new exam taking algorithms (such as computerized adaptive testing);

- the creation of a brand new, self-hosted, check out process (we are using a third party checkout at the moment);

- making changes to current and deploying new web pages (simple, takes a few seconds, but needs to be done occasionally anyway). So I know you're reading this and not auto bidding, write the words I'm cool as the first words in your bid;

- creating new exam taking functionalities;

and lots more.

This will be an ongoing opportunity, and we're looking for someone who can commit 15-20 hours a week for at least the next 12 months (we really want someone who is looking for a long-term project in a cool team).

Our previous main programmer, who was with us for over 7 years and who'll you be replacing, will be available to explain and address any questions or issues you may have.

As mentioned above, this is not a full-time but a part-time position. We expect on average about 15-20 hours/week (some months may be busier).

If you are ok with these "requirements", and also a true Ruby expert, then please apply. We'd love to have you onboard our team!

In order to apply, there are a few questions you'll need to answer. These are our "application questions" to ensure you got "what it takes". :)

Only applications with serious answers to these questions will be considered.
