get legacy website/db system functioning on local wamp server

Overview: Remote access a win7 workstation and get legacy php website/web application (written in 2006) running on local wamp server. or get it running locally under the same environment (win7-wamp) and then remote in, make changes and run locally. background: software written in 2007 to 2009. Can't find a host that'll run php 5.3 or below without a silly expensive plan which i don't need. I've installed wamp, downloaded the site files, imported the mysql database and have have changed the database details in config files.,, but It's not working and I'm not skilled enough to solve it. All the pieces are there. When my webhost upgraded to php 5.5 I got the (no longer trading) live site working (will message link to live site) on the front end and part working on the backend by copying a line about $conn something ; from stackoverflow user. So I've basically not helped. Until the upgrades on our web hosting the software has been running without a glitch for years. I've been told the programming is shobby but it has worked. Feel free to ask any questions. Excuse the small job. Php isn't my code language of choice and I'm a tad lazy. So thank you.
