Number of Foreign Investors Surges in Tanzania
After the East Africa Stock Exchange (EASE) has been launched last September, Tanzania has observed dramatic increase in foreign investors.
In an interview with journalists last 2014, Simon Migangala, the Chief Operating Officer Officer of Unit Trust of Tanzania (UTT), said that with the opening of the market, Tanzanian companies have higher chances to be included in East Asia Stock Exchange market.
The market has enabled foreign investors to acquire more shares to companies which are owned by Tanzanians.
Previously, foreign investors were only limited to acquire not more than 60% of shares in Tanzania’s stock market. Under the present law, investors of EASE investors have no more restrictions on the shares that they can purchase. They are disallowed to purchase government shares, bills, and Treasury bond.
Simon said the investments are important in any country and nations that are included in EAC can be helped in case crises may arise.
