Hi, This project is for the creation of a .dts overlay in latest RaspberryPi OS (kernel 5.4). The overlay has to use the simple-audio-card and the spdif codec assigned on the I2S controller that will act as Master in order to produce an ALSA device. That ALSA device should adhere to the TDM protocol and have 8 slots/channels, both capture and playback simultaneously. So this overlay does not need any specific audio hardware attached to the RPi, it can be used on any RPi. The ALSA device needs to have 4 subdevices, each will have 2 channels for playback and two channels for capture Eg if the Card/Device is 'hw:2' then the sudevices should be 'hw:2,0' 'hw:2,1' 'hw:2,2' 'hw:2,3' each of them will have two channels (L/R) in both capture and playback. So in total 4x2=8 channels that mentioned earlier. Samplerates and sample types will be the ones that the spdif codec uses eg S16_LE/S24_LE/S32_LE, at 48000/96000/192000 rate. For that project the hardware requirements for the freelancer are only to have an RPi 3B/3B+/4 and a simple 4-wire logic analyzer that will show the proper I2S controller behaviour. Attached in files is the TDM protocol taken from a codec (CS42448) datasheet.
