Prior to my current work I was a chef for years, fully trained and have worked in Michelin starred kitchens. I also have an interest in the science behind food such as 'Does searing meat actually hold the flavour in?' or the chemistry of Bread etc...
I have a deep knowledge of international food, slow food, regional Indian cuisines and a particular interest in the history of food, from Greek and Roman to the evolution of Kashmiri cuisine from it's Pakistani roots. Also the migration of the Indian techniques to the UK and eventually it's ubiquitous presence world wide. I know India well, having spent time in both Mumbai and Chennai.
Additionally on the DIY side, I am currently refurbishing a 120 year old cottage, this is my third major refurbishment. Stripping back to plaster. I can write on interior design, lighting, technical problems, kitchen design, bathroom design, home automation and garden rescue.
