Advanced Programming

Objective: The main objective of this assignment is to familiarize students with object oriented design and programming. Students are encouraged to create extensible, reusable and maintainable designs by making use of encapsulation, inheritance, polymorphism, compositions, MVC architecture, SOLID principles and design patterns. Students are also expected to explore JDBC and GUI. 1. Overview : The Westend Theatre puts on shows of local and international plays daily (one show per day) for up to 50 people. Currently only registered members can make bookings; admin can make anyone a new member after verifying the ID and collecting the initial minimum payment. Subsequently, a member can book a show and pay from the member’s account, which can be topped up by the admin as and when necessary. The standard rates for local and international plays are $100 and $200 respectively, but generous discounts are offered to attract more patrons; the discount depends on a number of factors including, the type of booking, the number of seats being booked, the type of play (local, international cast) and the current member plan. Members are allowed to upgrade their plan by paying a higher one-off fee, which entitles them to higher discounts. Members who introduce other members are credit with $50 in their account.
