Add a product filter

Hello :) I bought this theme here: [login to view URL] Now, I want to add a product filter on the left side or under the header on my website. The problem is, that the designer of my theme doesn't have enought time to create that extension. And my code skills aren't so good to add such a filter. But it's realy necessary for my website (onlineshop).
