I have a state government job in the US. I must **convert a VB 6 app into Visual Basic .NET**. The whole client-side app just loads an assortment of big text files into MS SQL Server database tables. It does this using DTS.
***The whole app already works fine***--*in VB 6* (loading big government text files with DTS in the VB into it's 1 SQL Server database's tables). **I must just make sure that it works *exactly the same* after it is converted to VB.NET**--*that is what you have to do*. I could run the VB 6 app through Visual Studio 2005's default converter and then take it from there. That is what I want and I am going to do that. But, so you can start fresh on it from the VB 6 original, I will send it to you in its original VB 6 version--before it is run thru VS 2005's converter--So *you* can then run it thru VS 2005's converter from scratch and then finish converting it to VB.NET from there. **--Getting it to work exactily as it worked in VB6. With the smallest amount of lines changed as possible.
Make the smallest amount of changes possible.** I would like you to convert it from its old RDO to [login to view URL] in the future in a separate job. With the converter one can keep using the old RDO and VB6 controls.
If this job goes well, from time to time, I will have smaller jobs too in the long-run. This could be the makings of a very small but perminant long-term business relationship. We can correspond and work together. I'm a new entry-level programmer so none of the programming techniques will be advanced. --But the big old VB app I work on is complex due to its bulk of functions and size. It takes a long time to figure out how to make a very small change to it. And it is very sensitive about what it does with the text files. It is comming up with important statistics for my local community.
