Here's basically what we need and couldn't find : A script (in ajax/javascript/php ?) capable of capturing a page source code of a given url at scheduled intervals (for example every 5 minutes). The html code source is copied in simple text form to a mysql database or in a .txt file. Then, 5 minutes later, the script is run again, and checks if any change has been made in the source code of that url. If there's even 1 character only that has changed between the 2 versions of source code, then it will display "CHANGE". If it's still identical, then it will display "NO CHANGE". For example, imagine you take [login to view URL] they update their homepage, for example every 30 minutes or so (just an example). The script we will seek to know every 5 minutes if the yahoo homepage has changed or not, through a check of its source code. the webpage this script will work on will be very simple : just an input field to submit the url, another field to input the interval (in minutes) and a "go" button. Past the first interval countdown, the script will check if there's any change in the url source code and will refresh (through ajax) the text that says "NO CHANGE" or "CHANGE". For now, that's all we ask. Please provide your portfolio that shows what you can do with ajax/javascript. Note that this assignment is an experiment part of a larger project. If you succeed, we'll give you a larger job. we hope the requirement are clear enough, don't hesitate if you have any question. happy new year 2008 !
