Hi, my proposition to solve this task is to use photogrammetric approach, that I usually apply while remote sensing measurements of the height of the ground objects by images from satellites or aircrafts. So, 2D approach will be measurement of the depth of the tread grooves from one image frame with additional information about length of some mark (line) on the tyre, 2D- 3D approach will be measurements from two or more image frames from the same camera and 3D approach will be measurements from two different cameras that have different angle of view to tyre surface.
