C/C++ Programmer needed

I'm about to start a project that I think requires me to hire a programmer that is familiar with linux and c++ programing. I've never had to hire a programmer before, so I'm completely in the dark on this one and truly limited in my ability to communicate in technical terms.
This project is based on using the commercial flagging feature of MythTV personal video recording software and interface it with a micro controller so that when a live television broadcast cuts to a commercial the flagging software will send voltage to a micro controller/servo/switch.
My understanding is that, MythTV is an open source and Linux based product. Many aspects of the operation and functionality can be modified by users with Linux and either programming or scripting experience.
