The aim of this project is to write a program that can take two very long (varying between 30 minutes to 90 minutes long) stereo wav files- and create some software that will analyze them, find where they are the same and where they are different, and then output the results as a text file.
For example, I might I have an original wav file taken from a movie. Then I reorder some scenes, delete some, and maybe add a new scene. So now I have two wav files, the same in some places but different in others. I need the software to analyze this and produce the text file.
The output of the text file is specific, it must be in SMPTE Timecode format. Hours: Minutes: Seconds: Frames, for example 01:02:00:23. The text file must be formatted a specific way (see attached example).
Upon loading each wav file, the software must ask the user what each file's timecode rate is, and what its start timecode is.
The analysis used must be true audio analysis- a bit for bit comparison will not work, because the second wav file might have a scene which is identical, but is overall 3dB quieter.
The software must feature a sensitivity slider which will alter how rigorous the analysis is when deciding whether or not it has a match.
We will include two example wav files and and the text file that would be produced from analyzing them.
The software should be able to run on snow leopard and lion.
As this is our first project we will make ourselves readily available on the project clarification board, and can supply further examples of the inputs and outputs the software should have. We will also establish a milestone system agreeable to both parties.
