Eating Green in Kansas City
Green eating in Metro Kansas City has been around for quite sometime. Some of its population gravitate to alternative lifestyles and vegetarians have not had too hard of time finding traditional restaurants that would cater to their tastes. Eden Valley is one of those places that were established almost twenty years ago in the basement of Unity Temple on the Plaza. You will still find appetizers that were served when they first opened like hummus and pita, baba ghanoj and pita (pureed eggplant and spices) or baby falafel. These are priced at $6.25. Salads are made with organic produce such as chef’s choice made with mixed greens, brown rice, taziki, hummus, feta cheese, falafel crumbles, cucumber and tomatoe with red wine vinaigrette and toasted pita. Salads come in various sides starting at $6.25.
Besides appetizers and salads, they serve sandwiches with one being a smoky tomato bruschetta. Their entrees are: Spinach and Mushroom Loaf with roasted sweet potatoes, sweet potato burrito or the Ultimate Grilled Cheese. They make a vegan cheese out of cashews. These all start out at $8.25 a half order or $10.25 for as an entrée at $10.25.
This is a great place to eat gluten free, vegan, vegetarian and soy free, blending organic, local and traditional ingredients.
