  Dear contest holder, please don't take this as a comment with a "mad" tone, but I just have to share my thoughts regarding the project. I understand that a quality book costs a lot, but 140 euros for a 20 page + cover pages book with an elegant touch is quite far from fair. These illustrations require a lot of work and attention to detail and the illustrator doing it will invest a lot more into it than just their talent and time. Honestly, I started working on the sample illustration, but after realizing that the payment refers to the whole project, I decided not to upload it. Generally a well detailed and finished illustration cost somewhere between 35-45 euros. Too bad....the story is sooo lovely and gentle. I am sure it will be a big hit, since there are lots of lovely illustrators here, it's just that the person you or the author will pick, deserves a bit more. I am sorry, I did not mean to be offensive. I wish you all the best.

     1 good illustration, with a proffesional revision and sketch process, can take a week. You can think about the salary of a week. That is a fair price. And I live in Chile, and I have been in USA. Chile is more expensive. "For many people, 140€ is a lot of money" -> that is not true. the true is, there are people with more needs than you, who work for a misery.

  If I understand correctly, the winner is to illustrate a 20 page book for $140? When I first read the description, I thought the prize was for the initial concept and 1 illustration.

     Dear prospective contestants, in the description, we wrote:"The task is to design the full book, including the front and back cover. You are free in the decision about the size of the pages, the setting and placing of the verses and the font of the text."

     Yes, it already works kind of like that :-) since this is our first time putting up a contest like that, we just left that open. We will know better the next time. We expect a significant application to show one or two scenes of the book, preferably one in space and / or one on earth, also showing what Fara would look like. We already got some great works!      Hello martavandereck, it is thought as a poetic story about a baby just in process of coming into life. It could for example literally begin with the boulder breaking from a star and transforming into a baby during the progression of the story... but that is just one idea. We intentionally did not tell more so that we get lots of different creative ideas. Hope that helped you a little bit :-)
